Overview

In this role you lead architectural design and delivery of complex, safety-critical facilities in highly regulated sectors. You provide architectural leadership across multidisciplinary teams to ensure design integrity from concept to delivery, aligned with safety and operational requirements. You translate regulatory and safety-case needs into robust design responses and manage interfaces across project stages. You work closely with clients to align objectives and drive delivery excellence, shaping outcomes for defence, research, and nuclear infrastructure. This is a senior, impact-focused position in Adelaide with relocation support for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design and delivery of complex defence, research, and nuclear infrastructure projects in regulated settings
  • Act as Project Architect, preserving design intent and coordinating high-quality outcomes across all stages
  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination, integrating architectural, structural, services, and specialist systems
  • Translate nuclear safety case and regulatory requirements into robust architectural designs with SME collaboration
  • Oversee design development, technical documentation, and compliance with Defence, NCC, IAEA, and nuclear frameworks
  • Lead client and stakeholder engagement, maintaining alignment of project objectives
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and drive continuous improvement and delivery excellence

Key requirements

  • Accredited degree in Architecture with AUKUS registration and exposure to nuclear defence / NSQEP
  • 10–15+ years’ experience in architecture with leadership on complex, safety-critical projects
  • Experience as Project Architect and/or Principal Consultant on medium to large-scale projects
  • Background in highly regulated environments (defence, laboratories, pharmaceutical, healthcare, nuclear facilities)
  • Strong understanding of Defence design standards, government delivery frameworks, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience with safety-in-design, human factors, and complex systems integration in high-hazard contexts
  • Australian Citizenship (or eligibility for AUKUS clearance); NSQEP recognition and/or postgraduate qualifications are valued
