Overview
In this role you support the Edmonton structural team as a junior engineer, contributing to analyses, designs, and project coordination under guidance from senior staff. You work on multidisciplinary projects across oil & gas, mining, power, and materials handling, helping ensure design intent and quality. This is a growth-focused position in a collaborative firm that values hands-on learning and early responsibility. Responsibilities
- Interpret drawings, codes, and standards to support design decisions
- Model and design structural components using standard software and hand calculations
- Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, piping, electrical, civil teams to ensure design alignment
- Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer
- Review shop drawings and submittals, prepare site observation reports
- Assist with development of technical specifications and proposals
- Attend project coordination meetings with team members and clients
- Contribute to a multi-discipline team
- Adhere to Stantec’s quality control and EH&S guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned by senior staff
Key requirements
- Knowledge of NBCC, CSA, AISC, ACI
- Experience with STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, AutoCAD, and MS Office
- Understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas
- Strong fundamentals and precision in design calculations
- Knowledge of structural systems, materials, and standards
- Ability to check own work and manage time to meet budgets and schedules
- Team-oriented with collaboration and critical thinking skills
- Willingness to travel and hold a valid driver’s license
- Willingness to consider PE license in the USA
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a Structural focus; Master’s is an asset
- Registered as EIT or Professional Engineer with APEGA; co-op/internship or up to 5 years of experience
