Overview

In this Public Sector Audit role at Grant Thornton, you help lead external audits for NHS, local government, and related bodies within a high-performing team. You work closely with clients to discuss business needs while strengthening technical capabilities and audit quality. The role offers development opportunities, flexible/hybrid working, and a pathway back into public sector audit for returners. Responsibilities

• Manage a large portfolio of public sector audits
• Lead client discussions on business challenges and needs
• Maintain and develop technical knowledge to facilitate client discussions
• Extensive use of audit software and Microsoft packages
• Apply UK GAAP / FRS102 in audits
• Support audit quality and delivery across engagements

Key requirements

• Professional qualification (ACA, ICAS, CA, ACCA or CIPFA)
• Post-qualification experience
• Confident managing a large portfolio of audit clients
• Knowledge of UK GAAP / FRS102
• Project management experience
• Experience with IFRS and auditing listed companies would be beneficial
• Experience of auditing public sector bodies and dealing with complex technical matters
