Overview
In this role you will provide financial accounting services for the Europe region, ensuring UK statutory reporting and timely close. You will prepare UK statutory accounts, liaise with auditors (KPMG), apply UK GAAP (FRS102), and post adjustments in SAP. You will lead interim and year-end SOX controls, support monthly reporting to US HQ, and perform balance sheet reconciliations. You will work on cross-geo projects, represent the team on work streams, and cover the manager as needed. The role sits in a global firm in Canary Wharf, offering exposure to multi-jurisdictional accounting and transformation.
Responsibilities
- Prepare UK statutory accounts with schedules for external audit
- Liaise with auditors (KPMG) and coordinate responses to audit testing
- Research and apply UK GAAP (FRS102) for new or changing activities; post UK GAAP adjustments in SAP
- Lead interim and year-end SOX control audits; prepare schedules and respond to queries from KPMG
- Coordinate documentation requests from the wider Europe business
- Ensure timely internal monthly reporting to the US HQ (benefit analysis, ad valorem taxes, allowances for doubtful accounts)
- Perform month-end close activities (accruals, amortisations, payroll, currency revaluations, ad hoc journals)
- Undertake monthly balance sheet reconciliations; clear open items timely
- Critically review SAP entries and overall balance variances for data integrity
- Perform ad hoc statutory/analytical work and represent the team on projects
Key requirements
- Degree level education and professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
- Up-to-date UK GAAP knowledge (FRS102)
- 5+ years post-qualification experience in financial accounting/statutory reporting
- Excellent verbal and written communication with strong interpersonal skills
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to prioritise, multitask, and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
- Advanced Excel and SAP experience
- Thomson Reuters OneSource Accounts Production experience preferred but not essential
