Senior Mechanical Engineer (Specials)

Overview

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our R&D team, you will define and validate mechanical performance for high-precision assemblies used to achieve nanometer-scale accuracy. You’ll drive design, manufacture, and documentation for new products while guiding production support and customer-specific adaptations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and oversee junior engineers, contributing to a culture of innovative, instrument-focused engineering. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge metrology technology within a global specialty manufacturer.

Responsibilities

• Derive mechanical performance specs from system requirements for assemblies
• Lead design, validation, and timely manufacture using on-site and external supply chains
• Create manufacturing and service documentation for product introduction
• Modify instruments/fixtures/accessories for customer-specific needs
• Define mechanical specifications and support production for new products
• Lead design reviews considering safety, risk, and customer considerations
• Develop metrology budgets for main instrument functions and validate via calculations/FEA
• Plan assembly, validation, life testing, and servicing strategies
• Mentor junior engineers and oversee subcontractors
• Collaborate with Business Development and Operations on new and existing developments

Key requirements

• Proven track record in product design
• Experience designing small mechanisms
• Knowledge of drives and controls
• Strong manufacturing engineering, materials, methods, and processes knowledge
• Analytical problem-solving abilities with practical experience
• Proficient in CAD tools (NX, Catia, ProE) and MS Office
