Overview
In this role you will lead tax dispute resolution activities within a leading accountancy firm’s tax advisory division. You’ll coordinate cross-functional teams to address disputes with HMRC and other authorities, shaping arguments and strategy. The position focuses on risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and safeguarding financial integrity through strong technical and negotiation capabilities. You will mentor junior staff and contribute to the firm’s tax governance framework. This is an opportunity to work on high-stakes matters in a Top 20 firm in London.

Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end tax disputes with HMRC and other authorities
- Analyze tax assessments and audit findings to identify strategic opportunities
- Prepare position papers, legal arguments, and supporting evidence
- Represent the organization in negotiations, hearings, and settlements
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and compliance to align dispute strategy
- Monitor tax legislation and case law to advise on mitigation measures
- Utilize SAP NetWeaver AS to manage tax data and reporting
- Train and mentor junior tax professionals
- Maintain records of dispute activities and learnings
- Ensure internal controls, data privacy, and governance in dispute processes
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; ACA, ACCA, or equivalent preferred
- Minimum 5 years in tax advisory, dispute resolution, or corporate tax
- Proven track record managing high-value disputes with HMRC or international authorities
- Expertise in UK corporate taxation, including corporation tax, transfer pricing, VAT
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for modeling and data analysis
- Hands-on experience with SAP NetWeaver AS for tax data integration
- Exceptional negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Strong analytical and written communication abilities
- Ability to manage multiple complex cases under tight deadlines
- Knowledge of tax audit defense strategies and dispute processes
