Commercial Manager

Overview

In this role you support a safe, compliant workplace while driving commercial performance on major construction and manufacturing projects. You partner with the Commercial team to apply contract and regulatory standards, manage budgets, and forecast financials. You will lead reporting, risk and cost control, and mentor junior quantity surveyors, shaping project outcomes in a high-value sector. Responsibilities

• Prepare internal commercial reporting and other required outputs
• Forecast revenue, costs and cash flow; review and challenge forecasts before presenting to finance
• Negotiate final accounts and ensure agreements are reached
• Identify improvements to internal systems and processes
• Ensure accurate WIP reporting in accounts
• Manage the commercial team and oversee invoicing applications using job management software where possible
• Handle contractual frameworks and standard forms of contract (NEC/JCT)
• Improve cost management procedures, templates and products to enhance client services
• Monitor expenditure against budget via CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation)
• Oversee subcontractor onboarding and timely, correct payments
• Track future order book pipeline to assess forecast achievability
• Lead mentoring for Assistant QS and QS, offering guidance on legal, technical and procedural matters
• Identify risk/scope areas and monitor with project teams and manufacturing facility

Key requirements

• BSc in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management or similar
• Experience as Commercial Manager within a Contractor or Sub-Contractor organisation
• Working knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract
• Multi-site experience
• Experience in internal and external project reporting
• Experience in the M&E market
