Overview

As Risk Manager, you will lead and coordinate risk identification, assessment and mitigation across transport and infrastructure projects to support objectives and compliance. You’ll embed a proactive risk culture, ensuring clear reporting and informed decision-making. The role focuses on high-speed rail design and may span multiple UK and overseas markets. You will work with cross‑functional teams to implement frameworks, drive improvements and provide senior stakeholders with risk insights.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain project risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures
  • Identify, assess, monitor and report project operational and compliance risks
  • Facilitate risk workshops and reviews to identify risks and opportunities
  • Maintain risk registers with controls, actions and owners
  • Track mitigation actions and assess effectiveness of risk controls
  • Escalate significant or emerging risks to senior management
  • Provide risk analysis and recommendations to inform decision-making across projects
  • Prepare risk reports, dashboards and presentations for stakeholders
  • Support project teams in practical risk reduction solutions
  • Collaborate with project leadership and technical teams on risk matters
  • Ensure risk activities align with objectives, governance and delivery priorities
  • Support incident reviews, lessons learned and business continuity planning
  • Promote risk awareness and training to embed good practices
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and contractual requirements
  • Build relationships with clients, contractors and external stakeholders
  • Promote continuous improvement in risk processes and reporting
  • Demonstrate collaborative, respectful, excellent and empowering behaviours

Key requirements

  • Proven experience managing risk in infrastructure, construction or large-scale projects
  • Experience in risk management or related project controls
  • Ability to run workshops with multi-disciplinary stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills to translate data into clear risk insights
  • Experience with qualitative and quantified cost risk analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; PowerPoint for presentations
  • Experience using risk databases or risk management systems
  • Recognised risk management or project management certification (APM/ PMI-RMP or equivalent)
  • PRINCE2 or equivalent certification
  • IRM Risk Certificate or equivalent
  • Lean Management or Six Sigma certification
  • Membership in PMI or APM desirable
