Principal Sustainability Consultant (Building Certifications)

Overview

In this role you will lead sustainability certification projects for buildings across the UK and Europe, guiding design teams and engaging clients to realise high-scoring, compliant buildings. You will work within Ramboll’s Sustainable Solutions team to shape certification strategies, mentor colleagues, and contribute to research and tool development. The role blends technical leadership with project management to deliver ambitious, sustainable outcomes. Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver sustainable certifications projects (BREEAM, DREAM, WELL, LEED)
• Provide expert guidance to design teams on sustainability standards
• Facilitate design team workshops
• Manage client relationships
• Oversee project management and internal QA procedures
• Contribute to internal tool development and research
• Mentor and develop junior staff
• Prepare and quality-assure technical reports (e.g., BREEAM pre-assessment, sustainability statements)
• Support training and growth of junior team members
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables to ensure quality and profitability

Key requirements

• A relevant degree and minimum 6 years’ experience delivering sustainability projects in buildings sector
• Certifications such as Licenced BREEAM Assessor, BREEAM AP, WELL AP
• Strong track record across design and construction phases
• Experience delivering green building certifications (BREEAM, DREAM, WELL, LEED)
• Exceptional communication skills to lead meetings and convey technical concepts
• Report writing and client/internal communications experience
• Ability to work well in teams and independently
• Excellent organisational skills for workload, budgets, and deadlines
• Interest in sharing knowledge to support Ramboll’s strategy
