Overview
In Murphy Applied Engineering, you will deliver safe, practical, and economical designs for linear infrastructure projects, contributing to a multidisciplinary team that drives innovative, constructible solutions. You will work on Pre-FEED/FEED studies, detailed design, and constructability reporting for pipelines and HV cables, shaping project delivery in the UK. You’ll lead design risk assessments, mentor colleagues, and support bids, representing the design team in internal and external meetings. This role combines technical depth with client-facing collaboration to advance Murphy’s Better Engineered agenda.

Responsibilities
- Deliver technical drawings and reports for detailed design of linear infrastructure projects (steel pipelines & plastic ducts for HV cables)
- Produce constructability reports for linear infrastructure projects
- Lead Pre-FEED and FEED studies for major pipeline/HV power cable projects in the UK
- Provide technical support to planners and estimators during FEED studies
- Lead design risk assessments and approve technical design reports
- Coordinate project design activities and report progress within the engineering team
- Represent the design department at internal and external meetings
- Undertake site visits as required and manage time recording and workloads
- Coach and mentor staff for professional development
- Support bid teams with technical input and develop design estimates for submissions
- Contribute technical input into trenchless crossing designs (HDDs, Microtunnels, Auger Bores)
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- Chartered status or working towards Chartership (Engineering Council)
- Experience with Pre-FEED/FEED and detailed design for major linear infrastructure
- Familiarity with UK/EU/International standards for pipelines and plastic pipes (e.g., PD8010, BS EN 14161, BS EN 1594)
- Knowledge of geospatial analysis tools (ArcGIS or QGIS)
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills
- Understanding of construction plant and equipment used for steel pipelines and ducting
- Experience with consent requirements for rail, road, and watercourse crossings preferred
- Awareness of environmental restrictions in the UK
