Overview
In this role you will support a major Defence client by developing and maintaining safety cases and associated assurance documentation for critical, high-hazard nuclear facilities. You work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to ensure safe, compliant operations and effective risk management. You will influence design changes, safety submissions and lifecycle safety activities, collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders. Responsibilities
- Author, develop and maintain Nuclear Safety Case and Design Substantiation documentation
- Manage design changes, concessions and technical justifications
- Present safety case submissions to nuclear safety committees
- Develop and maintain EIMT schedules, procedures and documentation
- Support Periodic Reviews of Safety and lifecycle safety case activities
- Provide technical advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders
- Produce scopes for Independent Technical Assessments and Independent Peer Reviews
- Apply engineering expertise to support design, operation, maintenance and modification in a high-hazard environment
- Review and assess contractor technical reports, safety submissions, calculations and engineering documentation
- Produce robust technical justifications to support authorisation of design modifications
- Contribute to the safe delivery of complex engineering programmes for a leading Defence client
Key requirements
- Experience reviewing and assessing Safety Case documentation in highly regulated environments
- Strong background in producing safety justification and assurance documentation
- Ability to provide expert safety case advice to project teams, contractors and stakeholders
- Experience leading safety reviews, workshops and stakeholder meetings
- Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment techniques (HAZID/HAZOP)
- Experience reviewing technical reports, calculations and engineering submissions
- Proven ability to develop safety assurance strategies for complex engineering projects
- Experience within the nuclear, defence or other high-hazard industries
- Understanding of safety case delivery, assessment and regulatory compliance
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or equivalent experience
- Candidates without a nuclear background must undertake a Nuclear Introduction course within six months of joining
- Degree-qualified Engineer (desirable)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (desirable)
- Experience within Defence, nuclear or other highly regulated sectors (desirable)
