Overview

As Technical Director, you will champion development transport planning within a global design consultancy, supporting the Development team in Cambridge and across the East of England. You will lead client relationships, bid strategy, and technical leadership to grow market share and diversify the team. The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on project direction on major commissions. You will work closely with regional and office leaders to drive growth and ensure high standards of safety and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow the Development team’s market share
  • Set and track growth targets with Regional Director for Development South and local office lead
  • Engage with public and private sector clients and stakeholders to build trusted relationships
  • Lead and support bids, review submissions, and demonstrate commercial and technical value
  • Act as Project Director for major projects and strategically important commissions
  • Support SHEQ and Corporate Responsibility across the team
  • Provide technical advice to clients throughout planning and design processes

Key requirements

  • Degree-level qualification in transport planning or civil engineering
  • Proven track record of winning and delivering new work in a multi-disciplinary consultancy (public and private sectors)
  • Experience managing large multi-disciplinary tender proposals
  • Chartered status with ICE or equivalent
  • Commercial and strategic capability with a track record in identifying and delivering opportunities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with leadership and management experience
