Overview

As a Court of Protection Solicitor, you will support a market-leading team handling deputyship and health and welfare matters for clients lacking capacity. You will work with clients, families, and professionals to secure positive outcomes and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the firm. The role blends office and home working from Bristol, offering meaningful opportunities to develop in Court of Protection. You will progress complex matters under supervision and begin supervising junior paralegals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage routine deputyship applications (property & financial affairs)
  • Draft COP forms, witness statements, and best interest arguments
  • Support senior fee earners on complex health & welfare matters (e.g., residence or care disputes)
  • Act for professional deputies in day-to-day financial management (sales, budgeting, banks, benefits)
  • Maintain client and professional communications; liaise with the Office of the Public Guardian
  • Stay up to date with case law and contribute to internal knowledge sharing
  • Begin supervising junior Paralegals and support their development
  • Assist with statutory will applications, small gifts, and investigations into financial abuse

Key requirements

  • 2-4 years PQE with demonstrable Court of Protection experience
  • Strong drafting and communication skills
  • Empathy, discretion, and client-focused approach
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to support team growth
  • Solid understanding of Professional Deputyship Standards, Mental Capacity Act and Court of Protection Practice Directions (desirable)
