Building Services Engineer

Overview

As Principal Electrical Engineer, you will act as the technical authority for electrical building services, leading the design team across feasibility to handover. You’ll work with clients, contractors and multi-disciplinary design teams to deliver compliant, high-quality electrical installations. The role combines technical leadership, project governance and team development within a growing MEP consultancy. You’ll drive sustainability and innovative, decarbonised solutions at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, specification and delivery of electrical building services across all RIBA stages
• Serve as principal technical authority for electrical engineering
• Review and approve electrical designs, calculations, drawings and reports
• Oversee feasibility, option appraisals and technical due diligence
• Lead client, contractor and design team meetings; manage project programmes, budgets and quality
• Coordinate site surveys, commissioning reviews and regulatory compliance (BS 7671, CIBSE, Building Regulations)
• Mentor and develop engineers and graduates; promote best practice and knowledge sharing
• Support business development, bids, proposals and framework applications
• Collaborate with Mechanical, Sustainability and Energy teams to deliver integrated design
• Champion sustainability, decarbonisation and net-zero design principles

Key requirements

• Significant experience in Building Services/MEP consultancy
• Experience leading electrical design projects from concept to completion
• Proven team leadership and development capability
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills
• Experience with multiple projects and prioritisation
• Strong project and programme management skills
• Commercial awareness including fee and resource management
• Experience supporting bids and technical presentations
• Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Building Services or related discipline
• Strong knowledge of electrical building services design and installations
• Understanding of BS 7671 and relevant electrical standards
• Experience producing/reviewing electrical calculations, specifications and technical documents
• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit
