Senior Consultant – Transport Planning (Microsimulation modelling – Vissim)

Overview

In this Senior Consultant role, you join the Urban Space team within Transport Planning to lead and deliver strategic transport planning projects. You will apply traffic microsimulation and active modes analysis to support public sector clients, while guiding junior staff and collaborating with senior leaders. You’ll develop models, calibrate and validate results, and help shape project scopes, budgets, and client relationships. The role offers exposure to high-profile projects with a global reach and opportunities to innovate modelling approaches. Responsibilities

• Lead and support technical, managerial, and financial aspects of projects with Principal Consultants and Associate Directors
• Mentor and develop junior staff to enhance technical capabilities
• Develop and test innovative modelling tools and techniques (data analysis, visualization, model development, stakeholder engagement)
• Prepare scope and fee estimates for new projects and ensure delivery within budget and KPIs
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients to deliver high-quality transport planning solutions

Key requirements

• Strong experience in microsimulation modelling with Vissim
• Experience with junction modelling (LinSig)
• Solid data collection and data analysis skills
• Strong numerical and analytical abilities; proficient in MS Office
• Ability to address complex modelling issues and deliver projects end-to-end
• Experience delivering modelling projects for multiple transport users and Stakeholder liaison
• Familiarity with TfL Modelling Guidelines and TAG guidance
• Supervision and development of junior staff
• Experience in producing high-quality technical reports and presenting to project teams
• Excellent communication skills and team-oriented mindset
