Overview

In this Radiological Physics role, you will lead and deliver complex physics services within the NHS Trust, collaborating with clinical, scientific and technical colleagues. You will oversee safety frameworks, QA, and calibration of X-ray equipment, while driving service delivery and staff development. The role includes teaching NHS staff, leading R&D initiatives as opportunities arise, and acting as the primary Medical Physics expert for the group. You will work across sites to support radiology and capital equipment decisions, ensuring high-quality patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, maintain and develop scientific and technical support to diagnostic X-ray imaging, including QA programmes, equipment specification, commissioning, dose measurements, and fault investigation
  • Provide physics input to support Radiology departments and advise on complex scientific, technical and clinical issues related to X-ray equipment
  • Take operational responsibility for the physics services and ensure quality assurance and QC for X-ray equipment (CT scanners and complex X-ray systems)
  • Ensure imaging equipment is functioning correctly and calibrated for radiation monitoring and image quality
  • Investigate and resolve complex equipment problems and perform fault-finding on subtle or non-reproducible faults
  • Liaise with suppliers for maintenance and servicing; collaborate with clinicians, radiographers, technical staff and other physicists on equipment evaluation and procurement
  • Take responsibility for acceptance testing and commissioning of capital equipment
  • Ensure robust radiological physics service delivery and contribute to relevant job description as needed
