Overview

As Principal Structural Engineer in the Buildings & Places team, you will lead and shape structural design for complex projects across education, health, defence and commercial sectors. You guide multidisciplinary delivery, manage budgets and client relationships, and drive quality and risk controls to enable Net Zero and sustainable outcomes. You’ll mentor engineers, coordinate design inputs, and engage in the design review process, making a tangible impact on UK and international projects. This is a leadership role at a global firm with a strong focus on technical excellence and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise structural engineering design on complex projects
  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians in building schemes
  • Manage budgets, programme, and technical delivery
  • Source opportunities and prepare fee proposals with resources and timelines
  • Guide graduate engineers and oversee junior staff
  • Coordinate design input/output and maintain design quality
  • Engage with internal design reviews and lead workshops
  • Maintain high technical standards and project integrity

Key requirements

  • Design capability in reinforced concrete and steel
  • Knowledge of current Eurocodes
  • Experience with Structural Analysis Software (TEKLA, TEDDs, SCIA or similar)
  • Experience in assessment of existing structures and new build design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (English)
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, detail oriented and multi-tasking
