Overview

In this role you will lead geoenvironmental projects within Arup’s Midlands, Wales and West team, focusing on contaminated land assessments for diverse clients. You will provide technical leadership, manage junior staff, and drive delivery from initial appraisal to remediation and verification. You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality, sustainable brownfield solutions and support business growth in the region. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across geoenvironmental projects with innovative solutions
  • Manage junior staff supporting contaminated land assessments
  • Lead technical and professional development of junior team members
  • Deliver brownfield and contaminated land projects from appraisal to verification
  • Manage ground investigations including coordination with contractors and client teams
  • Oversee project programming and budget control
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and regulators
  • Contribute to work winning and regional capability growth
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Arup regionally and globally

Key requirements

  • Good honours degree in a relevant subject
  • Member of a relevant institute (e.g. CIWEM, IES, Geological Society of London, RSC) and full Chartered status
  • Knowledge of working within a commercial environment including client liaison, programme/time management, QA and budget control
  • Clear understanding of contaminated land assessment levels from acquisition to remediation and verification
  • Some wider technical expertise in brownfield development (e.g., waste classification, DoWCoP, permitting, EIA)
  • Knowledge of asbestos in soils, hydrogeology, DQRA, remediation techniques, ground gas or vapour assessment
  • Proven experience delivering geoenvironmental projects including ground investigations, risk assessments and remediation
  • Strong understanding of UK legislation, guidance and best practice relating to land contamination and waste
