Overview
In this role you will join Michelmores’ Construction team to advise on high-value, non-contentious matters with scope to undertake contentious work. You will help clients across public and private sectors on projects spanning energy, infrastructure, health, education, and commercial sectors. You’ll draft and negotiate contracts and ancillary documents, collaborating closely with partners and associates to deliver solutions. The role sits within a flexible, supportive firm culture that prioritises development through the Michelmores Academy and cross-office collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Review and advise on contract terms for clients
- Draft and negotiate contracts, appointments, and ancillary documents
- Interact with clients and other advisors, including via Teams
- Support day-to-day file management alongside partners or managing associates
- Handle high-value, complex matters across multiple sectors
- Be open to non-contentious work with potential to undertake contentious matters
- Contribute to business development opportunities
Key requirements
- At least 3 years’ post-qualification experience in Construction and Engineering
- Extensive drafting and negotiating experience across JCT, NEC, FIDIC, IChemE, EPCs, O&Ms, and related documents
- Interest in promoting business development
- Experience across multiple sectors and with various stakeholders (owners, developers, contractors, funders)
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills
- Confidentiality, initiative, and ability to work independently within a team
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Commercial, proactive, professional approach
- Excellent organisational skills and multitasking
- Contract drafting and negotiation across multiple contract families (JCT, NEC, FIDIC, IChemE, EPCs, O&Ms)
- Preparation of collateral warranties, bonds, and PCGs
- Client and advisor liaison, including virtual meetings
