In this role you will assess and manage a diverse credit risk portfolio for a leading trade credit insurer, focusing on both SMEs and large corporates across multiple sectors. Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of risks with robust credit risk analysis and high service levels
- Assess and respond to credit limit requests with clear underwriting rationale
- Analyse financial statements, cash flow trends, liquidity and leverage to gauge creditworthiness
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support objectives
- Apply commercial judgement balancing risk appetite with growth and retention
- Conduct buyer meetings and provide insights on emerging risks and opportunities
- Present complex credit assessments clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaborate with Commercial, New Business, Claims and Broker Distribution to align outcomes
- Apply and maintain reinsurance strategies and underwriting discipline per guidelines
- Utilise financial, economic and market intelligence sources for informed decisions
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and contribute to peer reviews and best practice
- Represent the business in broker meetings, buyer discussions and industry events
Key requirements
- Proven knowledge of the Credit Insurance market or related financial services roles (underwriting, broking)
- Alternatively, strong experience assessing corporate credit or default risk in banking, lending, restructuring or financial risk
- Strong financial analysis skills with interpretation of accounts, cash flow, liquidity, leverage and profitability
- Solid understanding of UK and global economic trends and their impact on credit risk
- Knowledge of portfolio management principles including concentration risk and sector exposure
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management abilities
- Confidence to challenge stakeholders with evidence-based underwriting decisions
- Strong reasoning, problem-solving and critical-thinking capabilities
- Experience using financial/credit information providers (advantageous)
