Financial Controls Manager

Overview

In this role you will own the financial controls framework for a high-growth retail business, partnering with senior stakeholders to strengthen governance and drive growth. You will lead control design, testing, and remediation while supporting audits and finance transformation initiatives. The position sits at the heart of finance, offering visibility and impact as the company expands across sites. You will guide process improvement, automation projects, and mentor a small team to build a best-in-class controls environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and continuous improvement of the financial controls framework
• Review, document and enhance key financial processes and controls
• Partner with finance and operations to identify control weaknesses and implement solutions
• Perform control testing and assess effectiveness of processes
• Support audit activity and manage resolution of audit findings
• Drive consistency, compliance and accountability across the organisation
• Provide updates and recommendations to senior finance stakeholders
• Support finance transformation initiatives including process improvement and automation
• Manage and develop a small team while overseeing day-to-day controls activity
• Act as trusted adviser on risk, governance and controls matters

Key requirements

• ACA, ACCA or equivalent accounting qualification
• Experience in audit, risk, financial controls or governance functions
• Strong understanding of financial control frameworks and governance
• Experience in large, complex or multi-site organisations
• Effective communication with finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Strong project management and organisational skills
• Proactive mindset with passion for continuous improvement
• Management or mentoring experience (advantageous)
