Overview

In this role you will ensure proper commissioning of building services systems, delivering high-quality results on time. You will work with cross-functional teams to validate performance and support tendering, testing, and documentation. You help optimize commissioning strategies and contribute to HDR’s inclusive, employee-owned culture. This is an opportunity to shape how essential building systems perform in data centers, commercial, residential, life sciences, and health care settings. Responsibilities

  • Verify that commissioning activities meet project requirements and quality standards
  • Validate commissioning results against specifications and performance criteria
  • Inspect existing systems to assess performance and identify improvements
  • Advise on commissioning strategies, scopes of work, and program requirements
  • Conduct measurements, surveys, and technical inspections
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance systems and procedures
  • Promote HDR and the group through marketing and client engagement
  • Plan equipment needs for testing and assist in tender document preparation
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and support colleagues in their tasks
  • Prepare technical, commercial, and programmatic internal/client reports
  • Provide technical commentary on drawings and submissions
  • Monitor project scope changes and communicate progress
  • Execute hands-on commissioning work as needed
  • Adhere to health and safety policies and internal controls
  • Work with contractor teams to align commissioning with project objectives
  • Utilize HDR’s project management systems and maintain financial awareness
  • Attend meetings and contribute to design and construction deliverables

Key requirements

  • Licensed PE or field technician with strong MEP systems and HVAC controls understanding
  • Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Experience in construction practices, systems engineering, and project accounting basics
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and operate in an employee-owned culture
  • Willingness to travel to site locations as required
  • Minimum 5 years of commissioning experience in building-related sectors (Data Centers, Commercial, Residential, Life Science or Health Care)
  • BEng in Mechanical Engineering with Building Services (or equivalent)
  • Experience with quality and environmental policies and procedures
  • Ability to produce and review technical and commercial project documents
