Overview

In this role you will provide consultant leadership within the Learning Disabilities Service, driving high-quality psychiatric care for adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to support community living and timely treatment, while advising on discharge planning and service governance. You will contribute to service development and clinical governance as a key member of the senior management team. This post offers a chance to shape care pathways and partnership working across local services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant leadership to a defined caseload and supervise junior doctors
  • Lead on compliance with the Mental Health Act and relevant CQC requirements when appropriate
  • Assess patients and develop care plans addressing psychiatric, physical and social needs
  • Supervise care program approach interventions and coordinate with care coordinators and other consultants
  • Maintain clear communication with GPs, carers and relevant professionals; participate in reviews when indicated
  • Foster collaboration with other mental health services to optimise referrals and integrated care
  • Engage in service evaluation and data gathering to monitor performance and inform developments
  • Contribute to service development and governance as part of the senior management team

Key requirements

  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council
  • Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of CCT)
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Eligible for Section 12 Approval (Mental Health Act)/Approved Clinician or willing to apply after start
