Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Overview

In this Principal Electrical Design Engineer role, you will lead electrical design on large-scale new-build residential and mixed-use schemes and act as a key deputy to the Regional Director. You’ll mentor the design team, manage client relationships, and uphold delivery standards across the regional office. The position offers a genuine leadership path with direct influence on team development and culture, across London and the South East. You will shape regional standards and drive high-profile projects, delivering practical, commercially sound engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design on large-scale new-build projects
• Act as second-in-command to the Regional Director
• Take responsibility for the wider team in the Director’s absence
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers
• Manage client relationships and represent the business in meetings
• Resolve technical challenges and conflicts professionally and commercially
• Oversee calculations, drawings, specifications, and project coordination
• Support the development of regional standards, processes, and team growth

Key requirements

• Strong consultancy experience in electrical building services
• Proven delivery of residential and mixed-use new-build schemes
• Fully proficient in Revit (MEP) and AutoCAD
• Excellent client-facing skills
• Confident handling of difficult conversations and conflict resolution
• Able to find practical, commercially sound technical solutions
• Strong communicator, both face-to-face and over the telephone
• Chartered or working towards (advantageous)
