Overview
In this role you will prepare robust base estimates for tender submissions for a regional civil engineering contractor. You will work with the tender team and other stakeholders to ensure cohesive pricing and incorporate risk considerations at the bid stage. You’ll support the tender approval process and help translate scope, programme and risks into competitive bids. The role offers practical impact on project winning and commercial success, with a focus on collaboration and structured estimating. You will engage with cross-functional teams to shape outcomes and contribute to a disciplined bidding culture.
Responsibilities
- Estimate costs and commercial risks at bid stage
- Coordinate estimating across departments to align scope, programme, risks and technical submissions
- Develop and maintain databases for intelligence from past projects
- Coordinate subcontractor bids to integrate with company bidding
- Scrutinise tender estimates using standard techniques to ensure competitiveness
Key requirements
- Minimum HNC or equivalent in a construction/technical discipline (e.g., Civil Engineering)
- Experience estimating in a main contractor design and build environment
- Strong communication across all departments and disciplines
- Experience in information management (databases), estimating costs and project deliverables
- Full understanding of project lifecycle and design and construct process
- Background in commercial or Construction/Technical Engineering acceptable
- Familiarity with NEC forms of contract beneficial
