Overview

In this role you lead HV electrical design for substation projects, guiding feasibility through detailed design and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams. You will ensure designs meet standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications while prioritising safety-by-design. Based in a company driving UK power infrastructure, you’ll engage with external consultants and stakeholders to secure approvals and deliver impactful projects. Responsibilities

  • Lead production and review of high-voltage designs from feasibility to detailed design
  • Develop design solutions for substation builds, refurbishments, and reinforcements
  • Coordinate and manage external design consultants to ensure quality and timely delivery
  • Collaborate with civil, cable, and multidisciplinary teams for integrated solutions
  • Engage with client design authorities and stakeholders to secure approvals
  • Apply protections, earthing, plant selection, and network integration expertise
  • Champion safety-by-design across project stages
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements

Key requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Proven HV design project delivery experience in power, utilities, or infrastructure
  • Solid understanding of substation design principles and high-voltage systems
  • Experience with switchgear, transformers, cables, and electrical plant
  • Knowledge of electrical safety legislation and industry standards
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and support project delivery teams
