Associate Geotechnical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead geotechnical project delivery within a well-established consultancy, combining technical execution, project management, and client engagement. You will mentor junior engineers while shaping outcomes across residential, commercial, education, healthcare, and infrastructure sectors. The position offers growth into leadership, scaling geotechnical capabilities and fostering client relationships. You will work with cross-disciplinary teams to manage investigations, design, and construction support, delivering high-quality reports and recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Managing geotechnical and geo-environmental projects from inception to completion
• Designing and supervising ground investigations
• Producing interpretative reports and technical documentation
• Conducting foundation, retaining wall, earthworks and slope stability assessments
• Mentoring junior engineers and guiding project teams
• Managing project programmes, budgets, and resources
• Liaising with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
• Supporting fee proposals and contributing to business development
• Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
• Supporting growth of the geotechnical team

Key requirements

• Strong consultancy experience in geotechnical engineering
• Experience delivering projects across development sectors
• Strong technical reporting and analytical skills
• Experience managing projects and mentoring junior engineers
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills
• Commercial awareness and client relationship development
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or related discipline
• Chartered status or working towards Chartership with ICE, the Geological Society or equivalent
