Commissioning Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead HV/LV commissioning and testing across switchgear, substations, and critical power assets up to 33kV. You’ll work within the Power Systems Service team to deliver safe, high-quality commissioning, fault diagnosis, and refurbishment on diverse projects UK-wide and internationally. You’ll engage with clients, support handover, and mentor junior engineers while tackling protection and control challenges. The opportunity centers on delivering reliable, safe electrical infrastructure and enabling complex power systems to operate at scale. Responsibilities

• Perform commissioning on HV/LV switchgear, substations, transformers, protection systems up to 33kV
• Conduct functional, secondary injection testing, relay configuration, protection verification
• Supervise installation, commissioning, maintenance, modifications, refurbishment, fault diagnosis
• Support energisation, integration, and operational handover
• Lead technical investigations to resolve protection/control/network defects
• Support ATS systems and EV charging infrastructure commissioning
• Carry out FAT/SAT and assist with customer witness testing and project acceptance
• Plan and coordinate commissioning activities with project managers
• Provide technical mentoring to junior engineers
• Ensure documentation completeness and timely reporting

Key requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ HV/LV commissioning experience
• Experience on switchgear and substations up to 33kV
• Independent and multidisciplinary team work
• UK, overseas, and offshore project experience
• Strong background in protection and control systems
• Experience supervising commissioning activities and site teams
