AI Product Engineer

Overview

As a Product Engineer at Pelago, you will own end-to-end product areas, shaping AI-native solutions that improve member outcomes in behavioral health. You collaborate with product, design, data, and clinical teams to balance impact, safety, and technical tradeoffs. You ship secure, observable software across backend, frontend, and data surfaces and iterate based on data and user feedback. This role offers autonomy in a regulated environment and the chance to influence how AI augments clinical care.

Responsibilities

• Own meaningful product areas end-to-end from problem framing to production iteration
• Design and evolve secure, scalable, AI-augmented development systems
• Use data, experimentation, and user feedback to validate solutions and drive iteration
• Collaborate cross-functionally to balance member impact, clinical constraints, and technical tradeoffs
• Shape engineering tools, processes, and culture to improve outcomes and reliability
• Improve Pelago’s engineering system: AI-native practices, testing, documentation, knowledge sharing, and review quality

Key requirements

• Strong production experience building product software in startup or scale-up
• Excellent TypeScript/Node capability; comfortable with APIs, services, data, and cloud infrastructure
• Strong product sense and user/problem-driven approach
• Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguity and make sound trade-offs
• Solid testing, observability, and reliability instincts
• Fluent with AI-augmented engineering workflows while maintaining QA discipline
