Overview
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer at AECOM Buildings & Places, you will lead the MEP discipline on projects and mentor other engineers, delivering detailed mechanical design with a strong client focus. You’ll balance hands-on design work with team leadership, ensuring high-quality output and timely delivery. You will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, shaping projects from conception to completion and strengthening client relationships through technical excellence and proactive communication. Responsibilities
- Lead your own discipline on MEP projects and manage engineers from a complementary discipline
- Execute detailed designs with minimal supervision and provide specialist input
- Ensure high attention to detail and pride in deliverables
- Strengthen client relationships through credible, proactive engagement
- mentor and develop junior engineers
- Manage project timeline, allocate resources, and oversee project finances when designated as PM
- Coordinate tasks to meet deadlines and optimize resource use
- Engage with digital/parametric design tools and IESVE as part of project delivery
- Contribute to the design and delivery of Building Services projects
Key requirements
- Experience in design and delivery of projects within the consulting industry
- Experience in a similar consultancy or relevant business
- Excellent written and spoken English communication; ability to influence and negotiate
- Decision-making, initiative, and proactive work style
- Experience taking conceptual designs through to completion and direct client interaction
- Excellent report writing, presentations, and client meetings skills
