Overview

In this Field Engineer role, you will support VodafoneThree’s Scottish Power telecommunications network, ensuring reliability and quality across utility networks. You’ll work with project teams to deliver maintenance and new work while upholding safety standards. The position blends field delivery with technical assurance and requires strong collaboration with customers and stakeholders. This is a hands-on, impactful role within a mission-driven team expanding connectivity and digital infrastructure across Scotland.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver field engineering support across the Scottish Power telecommunications network and interface with SSEN and National Grid networks.
  • Support service delivery and assurance activities to maintain operation of critical infrastructure.
  • Participate in 24/7/365 support and maintenance for issue response and planned maintenance.
  • Collaborate with project engineers and delivery teams to ensure quality, safety, and customer experience.
  • Support project delivery within timelines, budgets, quality standards, and health & safety requirements.
  • Complete project documentation accurately and on time, assisting Project Engineers.
  • Monitor progress against plans, identify risks and dependencies, and escalate as needed.
  • Communicate clearly with customers and stakeholders to maintain alignment during delivery.
  • Assist in technical, testing, and quality activities per project requirements.
  • Maintain project records and perform administrative tasks to support delivery.
  • Collaborate across teams to drive positive customer outcomes and continuous improvement.

Key requirements

  • Experience in telecommunications, networking, field engineering, maintenance, commissioning, or related technical environments.
  • Knowledge of IP networking technologies (WAN, LAN, routing, switching, MPLS) or willingness to develop.
  • Experience with telecommunications infrastructure (SDH, PDH, Comtel, Microwave Radio) or similar.
  • Familiarity with networking equipment/platforms (Cisco, Alcatel) or equivalent.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, and prioritisation skills; adaptable in a dynamic setting.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to build relationships with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and digital collaboration tools.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, continuous improvement, and customer outcomes.
  • Training and support to obtain Scottish Power work authorisations where required.
