Overview

As Associate Director, you will lead technical delivery of complex structural and seismic projects in defence, research, and nuclear sectors. You will guide design, analysis, and regulatory compliance while mentoring engineers within multidisciplinary teams. The role emphasizes safety-critical infrastructure and elevated technical standards, contributing to AECOM’s mission to deliver sustainable, high-impact infrastructure. Responsibilities

  • Lead structural and seismic design for complex buildings and safety-critical facilities in defence, research, and nuclear sectors
  • Provide NSQEP-level technical leadership and ensure code compliance and safety
  • Deliver advanced structural/seismic analyses including dynamic assessments and resilience studies
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with clients and stakeholders
  • Review and assure quality of structural deliverables across project phases
  • Support nuclear safety cases, regulatory submissions, and technical justifications
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to growing AECOM’s technical capabilities and client relationships

Key requirements

  • 15+ years of structural engineering experience, with seismic and safety-critical project exposure
  • NSQEP experience or work in highly regulated nuclear environments
  • Chartered Engineer and Registered Professional Engineer (or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of Australian and international seismic, nuclear, and structural standards
  • Proficiency in advanced structural analysis software including FEA, ETABS, SpaceGass, and RAPT
  • Proven leadership and project delivery skills in multidisciplinary settings
  • Ability to obtain defence clearance (AUKUS)
