Overview

In this role you will lead high-impact project delivery for Gleeds’ Midlands team, operating from Birmingham or Nottingham. You’ll manage projects in the Industrial, Manufacturing and Logistics sectors, act as a trusted client-facing consultant, and drive growth across the business unit. You’ll oversee governance, bids, and commercial aspects while developing people and resources to meet customer objectives. This is a chance to shape major projects, strengthen client relationships, and advance Gleeds’ mission of innovation and value in the built environment.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and manage strategies to deliver business objectives
  • Identify new business development opportunities and drive growth across the Business Unit
  • Ensure projects follow Gleeds processes and governance
  • Agree fees and charges with Business Unit Manager/Area Chair
  • Agree appointments/scope of services and ensure appointments are in place before delivery
  • Deliver high-quality services meeting customer requirements
  • Review scope of appointments monthly to ensure compliance
  • Manage and maintain customer relationships including a customer care plan and complaint resolution
  • Ensure sufficient resources to deliver services and resolve resource conflicts
  • Lead and manage teams, collaborating with Associate Directors on workload
  • Ensure administrative compliance (appraisals, training, timesheets)
  • Develop and retain employees, focusing on development
  • Enhance Gleeds cost management capability
  • Brief employees on Gleeds business aspects
  • Prepare bids for services
  • Manage service delivery for profit and the commercial aspects (scope, invoices, payments, debt)
  • Collaborate with Directors and BU Manager/Area Chair
  • Contribute to cross-functional collaboration within the firm

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience delivering project/programme management on construction projects
  • 3 years in a responsible leadership role for major construction projects or frameworks
  • Knowledge of construction procurement strategies (tendering and contracts)
  • Knowledge of construction technologies, sequences, methods and materials
  • Strong commercial background and contract administration experience (as contract administrator, Employer’s Agent or Project Manager)
  • Understanding of legislation affecting building contracts
  • Experience leading high-performance multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability
  • Excellent problem solving, negotiating, financial and numeracy management
  • Ability to absorb complex information and assess requirements
  • Proven networking ability
  • Specialist knowledge in a specific industry sector (Residential, Hotels, Commercial, Retail, Leisure, Education, etc.)
  • Ability to prepare high-quality bids and negotiate fees for profitability
  • Proven track record delivering client-focused services and managing relationships
  • Experience interfacing with clients and stakeholders at senior levels
  • Experience managing multiple projects
  • Ability to work in a team and lead teams
  • MRICS/MAPM/MCIOB is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication (oral and written)
