As Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will provide strategic technical leadership for Midlands MEICA projects, guiding the full lifecycle from feasibility to delivery. You will act as the technical authority across water and wastewater facilities, driving innovative, sustainable solutions. You’ll mentor engineers, shape the discipline’s strategic direction, and strengthen client relationships to support Stantec’s growth in AMP8. Responsibilities

• Provide high-level technical leadership across major water and wastewater projects
• Act as technical authority for mechanical engineering in plants, pumping stations and conveyance systems
• Guide projects through feasibility, optioneering, detailed design, construction support and delivery
• Mentor and develop engineers and multidisciplinary teams
• Collaborate with clients, contractors and supply chain partners to influence outcomes
• Drive engineering excellence, embed best practices and support discipline growth
• Shape strategic direction of the Midlands Mechanical Engineering team

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards Chartered status
• Extensive experience delivering detailed mechanical design in the UK water sector
• Proven track record leading complex mechanical engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams
• Strong technical understanding of water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations and conveyance systems
• Experience mentoring, developing and managing engineering teams
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills
• Experience working with contractors and delivery partners
