Overview
As Principal Highways Engineer in our London team, you lead the design of highway links, junctions and active travel schemes to support development proposals across the UK. You will work with expert engineering consultants to apply the latest software and deliver innovative solutions for roads, public transport and active travel. You will produce designs, swept paths, and key technical inputs for safety audits and S278 submissions. Your role combines hands-on design leadership with collaboration across disciplines, contributing to a growing, mission-driven practice. Responsibilities
- Prepare preliminary highway link and junction designs, active travel corridors, and traffic calming schemes
- Produce swept path analysis and vehicle tracking
- Contribute to technical reports such as site access appraisals, Stage 1 Road Safety Audit briefs, Designer’s Responses and S278 Preliminary Design Check Submissions
Key requirements
- Minimum 5 years in highways design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D (5+ years)
- Knowledge of MfS, DMRB, and LTN 1/20
- Proficiency with Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions and Traffic Signs Manual
- Experience with S278/S38 Agreements
- Knowledge of SPONS Civil Engineering and Highway Works
- Traffic modelling knowledge and its influence on design
- Professional qualifications and memberships: EngTech / IEng / CEng; ICE / CIHT / CILT
