Overview

As a Python Engineer at Barclays, you design and build automation solutions across our technology landscape, including backend services, cloud-native infrastructure, and modern UIs using AWS, Python, Docker, and AI-assisted development. You collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into pragmatic solutions within a regulated environment. You contribute to code quality, secure coding practices, and robust testing while engaging with cross-functional teams. Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-quality software using industry-aligned languages, frameworks, and tools.
  • Ensure code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements and align with business objectives.
  • Participate in code reviews and foster a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of technology trends and contribute to technical communities to drive excellence.
  • Adhere to secure coding practices to protect data and build secure software solutions.
  • Implement effective unit testing to ensure design quality, readability, and reliability.

Key requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python for backend development or automation.
  • Proven experience with AWS cloud services (e.g., Lambda, EC2, S3, API Gateway).
  • Solid knowledge of Docker and container-based delivery.
  • Experience building front-end applications using React (or similar modern JavaScript frameworks).
  • Experience in Linux environments with basic shell scripting.
  • Exposure to AI tooling (e.g., AI code assistants, basic LLM or API integrations).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
