Senior AI Software Engineer

Overview

As a Senior AI Software Engineer, you will build, test and operate production-grade software using AI-native practices. You’ll work in a cross-functional delivery team, combining hands-on development with AI-assisted tooling while ensuring security, reliability and maintainability. You own software components across their lifecycle, contribute to engineering excellence, and collaborate with leads, architects and product teams. This role offers hands-on AI-enabled delivery at scale within Vodafone’s cloud-native platforms and APIs.

Responsibilities

• Build, test and maintain APIs, services, integrations, customer journeys and platform capabilities
• Translate requirements and designs into high-quality software implementations
• Leverage AI coding agents while ensuring validation, maintainability and quality
• Review AI-generated and human-written code, tests and artefacts for correctness
• Validate AI-generated code, docs and tests before production adoption
• Execute unit, integration, contract and regression testing
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and production verification
• Assist incident investigation, root-cause analysis and operational improvements
• Identify defects and recurring failure patterns, proposing practical improvements
• Maintain technical documentation and reusable assets
• Collaborate with Lead AI Software Engineers, Technical Leads, Architects and Product teams
• Coach and support less experienced engineers through pairing, peer review and knowledge sharing
• Drive continuous improvement of software delivery practices, developer experience and productivity
• Take ownership of services and components across their lifecycle

Key requirements

• 5+ years delivering production-grade software
• Experience in software design, development, testing, deployment and operational support
• Cloud-native development with Java (Spring Boot preferred) and React or equivalent
• Experience designing RESTful APIs, microservices, integrations and digital capabilities
• Familiar with cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, containers and event-driven patterns
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability and production support
• Ability to apply AI coding tools responsibly within software delivery
• Skilled in reviewing AI-generated and human-written code for defects and improvements

• Able to translate complex requirements into reliable, maintainable software
