Overview
As Regional Director of Fire Engineering you will lead a nationwide fire engineering team within a multidisciplinary design consultancy. You will oversee delivery of large projects, ensure regulatory compliance, and grow client relationships to expand the fire engineering business. The role combines people leadership with strategic project direction and technical input across portfolios. You will help shape paid work, mentor staff toward chartership, and collaborate with national leadership to maintain quality and performance. Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the fire engineering team, including workload, delivery, and performance.
- Oversee delivery of large, complex projects meeting regulatory and client expectations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and national leadership to deliver projects on time, budget, and quality.
- Lead Performance & Review processes, setting SMART goals and conducting appraisals.
- Develop professional development plans and mentor staff toward broader expertise and chartership.
- Provide specialized technical input to studies and designs across the portfolio.
- Lead project delivery on mid-to-large projects nationally and internationally.
- Serve as AECOM Approved Lead Verifier and Approved Project Manager, guiding project strategy and approvals.
- Manage key client relationships and contribute to winning new work.
- Ensure health, safety, and client relations policies are implemented and maintained.
Key requirements
- Experience on UK fire engineering projects and in a large, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK guidance and standards (ADB, BS 9991/99/92, HTM 05-02, BB100).
- Proficiency with fire engineering tools (FDS, SFE) and evacuation modelling.
- Membership in relevant professional institutions (MIFireE) and/or NFPA certifications (CFPE).
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) and/or MSc/PhD in a fire-related discipline (preferred).
- International experience and familiarity with standards such as IBC, SFPE, NFPA (preferred).
