Overview
As a Junior Engineer at UL in Warrington, you help define project scope and plan investigations for fire door and curtain wall conformity. You work closely with clients and lab teams to ensure UL requirements are met and to communicate findings. You’ll establish test programs, review documentation, and support continuous improvement in testing processes. This role offers exposure to safety standards, certification workflows, and cross-functional collaboration in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Determine project scope and preliminary investigation plans, setting cost, time, and sample requirements
- Coordinate with clients on technical issues, UL procedures, cost, and sample timelines
- Provide technical assistance on product inspection and follow-up services
- Establish and manage test programs by reviewing files, samples, and UL requirements
- Review standards and literature; notify clients of non-compliance or scope changes
- Coordinate laboratory activities, schedule technicians, and set completion dates
- Prepare data sheets, status reports, and follow-up service procedures
- Incorporate continuous improvement into all aspects of the job
- Analyze variations and resolve engineering issues related to Variation Notices
- Assist in developing UL requirements and special test methods
- Analyze test programs for adequacy and sequencing
Key requirements
- University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics plus four years directly related work experience
- Detailed knowledge of technical vocabulary in the discipline
- Working knowledge of conformity standards relevant to fire doors and curtain walls
- Experience with fire door and fire curtain testing and certification
- Ability to apply project-handling concepts in the area of expertise
