Platform Engineering Manager (Cloud Foundations)

Overview

As Platform Engineering Manager for Cloud Foundations, you lead the team responsible for secure, reliable, scalable and cost‑optimal cloud foundations used by hundreds of engineers. You will drive platform governance, security, automation and FinOps, aligning cloud strategy with business goals. You’ll shape resilient, observable services and foster a healthy on‑call culture while delivering continuous improvement. This role combines people leadership with hands‑on platform engineering in a modern internal platform context.

Responsibilities

• Lead platform engineering, operations, and reliability to run secure, scalable cloud foundations
• Oversee cloud security, governance, automation, and FinOps practices
• Manage incident response, post‑incident reviews and root‑cause analysis to reduce repeat incidents
• Ensure observability, monitoring, alerting and capacity/cost management with proactive controls
• Drive platform roadmap, OKRs and cross‑functional delivery with product, security, SRE and data teams
• Coach engineers, set growth goals, and foster an inclusive, high‑performing culture
• Maintain IaC, guardrails and automated governance patterns
• Ensure vendor management, due diligence, costs and SLAs are handled effectively
• Design scalable, resilient cloud architectures aligned with cloud platform strategy
• Embed continuous improvement by feeding learnings back into the platform

Key requirements

• Proven experience in cloud operations and platform engineering management
• Hands‑on experience with large cloud‑based environments (GKE, service mesh, load balancers, CDN/WAF, Kafka, Elasticsearch)
• Strong understanding of cloud services (networking, compute, storage, containers, security, IAM)
• Experience with IaC, Python, Go, CI/CD, Terraform, Kubernetes
• Security controls, IAM policies and cloud governance frameworks
• Familiarity with developer platforms and enabling internal product teams
• Operational excellence in monitoring, incident response, DR and upgrade processes
• Leadership, collaboration and communication aligned with tech‑team management
• Experience designing scalable and reliable cloud platform architectures
