Senior Structural Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead structural engineering design across diverse projects within Ramboll’s Industry & Infrastructure Facilities team in Bristol. You’ll develop concepts, apply sound engineering judgment, and collaborate with clients, architects and other specialists to deliver buildable solutions. You’ll mentor junior staff and help drive sustainable design and embodied carbon reduction. The position offers cross‑disciplinary exposure within a global network and opportunities to grow technically and professionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of structural engineering design for projects suitable to experience
• Develop structural concepts for steel, concrete and/or timber building types
• Apply engineering judgment to resolve complex problems and produce practical solutions
• Liaise with clients, architects, contractors and design team members
• Take ownership of your work and contribute to project and team outcomes
• Support and develop less experienced engineers and technicians
• Contribute to innovative and sustainable design including embodied carbon reductions
• Collaborate with the Bristol team, UK I&I team and Ramboll’s international network

Key requirements

• Chartered with IStructE, ICE or international equivalent
• Experience as a structural engineer in a consultancy or similar environment
• Strong experience in steel, concrete and/or timber design and understanding of building construction
• Experience on complex or technically challenging projects
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, sketching)
• Collaborative approach and interest in working with other disciplines
• Curiosity about better design methods and sustainable, efficient solutions
• Experience in rail, aviation, energy, manufacturing, data centres or similar sectors (beneficial)
• Ability to work across multiple sectors is advantageous
