Overview

As a Senior Traffic Engineer, you lead traffic and highway projects from concept to delivery within a multidisciplinary Place & Movement team. You will own technical outputs, manage client and stakeholder relationships, and mentor junior staff. The role focuses on urban realm improvements, active travel, and bus priority schemes across London and the South East, with engagement across planners, engineers and designers. You’ll work in a global consultancy environment that values leadership, technical excellence, and development opportunities. Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of traffic and highway projects from concept to construction
  • Own technical deliverables including drawings, reports and design docs
  • Prepare/review highway and traffic designs per UK standards
  • Manage tasks, programmes, budgets and technical risks
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, local authorities and stakeholders
  • Coordinate design with civil/structures/lighting/landscape/utilities
  • Perform/verify traffic, transport and infrastructure assessments
  • Support site inspections, surveys and construction monitoring
  • Review junior/intermediate engineers’ technical work
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to developing engineers
  • Contribute to fee proposals, bids and business development
  • Identify opportunities to develop client relationships and future work

Key requirements

  • Significant experience in traffic/highways/transport engineering
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning or related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of urban traffic and highway engineering
  • Experience delivering projects through design stages
  • Experience with UK highway design standards and guidance
  • Strong AutoCAD experience
  • Understanding of highway construction methods/materials
  • Experience managing deliverables and project priorities
  • Strong client and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior engineers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Civil 3D, OpenRoads, TfL standards, Bills of Quantities, site supervision or construction monitoring would be advantageous
  • Professional accreditation or working towards ICE/CIHT beneficial
