Overview
In this role you will lead the SHEQ strategy for a Tier 1 contractor delivering residential, heritage, and commercial projects in London. You will steer policy, compliance, and accreditation across multiple live sites and manage a dedicated SHEQ team. The position combines board-level reporting, site presence, and hands-on guidance to improve safety, environment, and quality across the business. You will shape a proactive safety culture and uphold high delivery standards in a busy construction environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead policy and compliance across H&S regulations and CDM 2015
- Chair Safety & Environmental Committee meetings; report to the board monthly
- Investigate and report accidents, near misses, and incidents
- Develop and implement SHEQ document control systems
- Support tender/bid teams with H&S input and guidance
- Maintain CHAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline, ISO 45001 accreditations
- Promote a proactive, collaborative safety culture across projects
- Maintain and improve ISO 14001 accreditation
- Oversee Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs) and environmental audits
- Audit waste suppliers and implement sustainability best practices
- Manage ISO 9001 accreditation and documentation
- Lead quality assurance audits across live projects
- Drive continual improvement and standardisation in project delivery
- Oversee training compliance across site management and operational staff
- Manage training records and internal development plans
- Liaise with subcontractors to support training initiatives where possible
Key requirements
- Chartered Member of IOSH
- Degree (or equivalent) or NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma
- Proven senior SHEQ leadership experience within construction
- Deep knowledge of UK H&S legislation and ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001)
- Track record managing safety across multiple project workstreams
- Ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of SHEQ professionals
