PCB Layout Engineer – Team Lead

Overview

As Team Lead, PCB Layout, you drive the development of complex, high-reliability PCBs across internal programmes. You lead a multidisciplinary layout team, coordinating with Program Managers, Manufacturing Engineering and Procurement to meet electrical, mechanical, thermal and environmental requirements. You mentor peers, manage workload forecasts and changes, and engage with international partners to introduce new technologies. The role combines technical leadership with a hands-on design focus, in a challenging defence environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of complex PCB layouts across diverse technologies (PTH, HDI multilayer, rigid/flex, impedance-matched, RF)
• Coordinate with Layout engineers, Program Managers, Manufacturing Engineering and Procurement to meet schedules and technical requirements
• Manage workload forecasts, review change proposals, and support technology introductions for high reliability
• Mentor team members and lead knowledge sharing to foster development
• Engage with stakeholders (including international partners) and ensure clear communication
• Travel between Bolton and Stevenage sites as needed to support training and design activities

Key requirements

• Extensive experience in RF/High speed/Analogue/Power/SI or EMC
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills for production-aligned designs
• Ability to lead design reviews and introduce new technologies both nationally and internationally
• Substantial PCB design knowledge and best practices for high-reliability products
• Solid knowledge of PCB fabrication processes and materials (stack-ups)
• Strong communication skills for face-to-face and electronic collaboration with stakeholders, including international partners
• Experience in scheduling and workload management in fast-paced environments
