Overview

As a Senior Rail Drainage Engineer, you will lead drainage design delivery for rail and infrastructure projects, shaping robust solutions that meet project requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce high-quality technical outputs and manage design risks. You will guide junior engineers and coordinate with authorities to secure approvals, driving compliant and sustainable drainage systems. This role offers work on high-impact rail projects within a supportive, inclusive Arcadis culture focused on delivering better quality of life. You will work with cutting-edge tools to model and optimise surface water, foul water and SuDS across rail and highway contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of drainage design packages for rail and infrastructure projects
  • Prepare, review and verify drainage calculations, drawings, reports and technical documentation
  • Develop drainage solutions covering surface water, foul water, SuDS, earthworks drainage and rail/highways drainage
  • Undertake drainage design and modelling using InfoDrainage and CivilStorm
  • Coordinate drainage design with multidisciplinary project teams
  • Support approvals and consents submissions to LLFAs and Water Authorities
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians
  • Identify and manage design risks, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and Arcadis requirements

Key requirements

  • BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven drainage design experience within infrastructure projects; rail experience desirable
  • Knowledge of surface water, foul water, SuDS, earthworks drainage and rail/highways drainage systems
  • Proficiency in drainage design and hydraulic modelling software
  • Ability to prepare and review technical calculations, drawings and reports
  • Understanding of approvals and consents processes involving relevant authorities
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with a relevant professional institution is desirable
