Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Life Sciences

Overview

In this role you will lead mechanical building services design within a multidisciplinary team. You’ll work on technically challenging projects across sectors, driving solutions from concept through delivery while mentoring junior engineers. The position emphasizes client engagement, commercial awareness and delivering quality outcomes on time and within budget. You’ll contribute to tenders and lead mechanical packages on small to medium schemes, shaping project success and engineering best practice.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify mechanical building services systems in line with standards and project requirements
• Produce detailed design deliverables: drawings, specifications, calculations, technical reports
• Undertake site surveys and provide support during construction
• Coordinate mechanical design with multidisciplinary teams
• Liaise with clients, contractors and project stakeholders
• Contribute to bids, proposals, scopes of work and fee estimates
• Support project delivery including programme, cost, quality and client requirements
• Take responsibility for mechanical services packages on small-to-medium projects
• Promote quality, compliance and engineering best practice across projects

Key requirements

• Strong experience in Mechanical Building Services design
• HVAC and Public Health design experience
• Ownership mindset and initiative to deliver engineering solutions
• Commercial awareness and focus on client satisfaction
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams
• Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians
• Relevant degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
• Chartered status or active progress toward Chartered status
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to develop relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders
• Membership of CIBSE ideally working towards Chartered status
• Experience with Navisworks
• Experience with NBS Create / Chorus
