Overview

As Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will lead and shape civil engineering projects for a diverse UK portfolio from Bristol. You will balance strategic project leadership with hands-on technical design and documentation production. You will apply best-practice standards to residential development schemes, coordinating with stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes. This is a growth role within an expanding Infrastructure Engineering team, offering flexible work and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects and teams to deliver civil infrastructure schemes
  • Hands-on technical design and production of drawings and documentation
  • Manage non-technical project aspects (contract management, financials, programme, resourcing)
  • Client and external-facing engagement and coordination
  • Lead residential development schemes including highways, drainage, levels and plot engineering
  • Own an independent lead role on major projects, prioritising workload for junior team members
  • Design using CM standards and guidance (Manual for Streets, CIRIA SuDS, Building Regulations)
  • Prepare drawings and calculations for private and adoptable arrangements
  • Obtain technical approvals from authorities (S104, S38)
  • Utilise AutoCAD, Civils3D and drainage modelling tools

Key requirements

  • 6+ years post-graduate experience in civil/ infrastructure environments
  • Experience in leading projects and teams and managing client-facing relationships
  • Consultancy/private sector development background with residential schemes from concept to construction
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with a collaborative approach
  • Full driving licence and access to a car
  • Demonstrable ability to lead in production of residential development schemes (highways, drainage, levels, plot engineering)
  • Experience leading holistic roles on major projects and mentoring junior staff
  • Ability to design to relevant best practice and guidance (Manual for Streets, Design and Construction Guidance, CIRIA SuDS, Sewerage Sector Guidance)
  • Experience obtaining technical approvals (S104, S38)
  • Numerate and software-literate with AutoCAD, Civils3D, MicroDrainage
