Engineering Manager

Overview

In this role you lead the engineering function across nominated projects, ensuring technical quality and risk control while supporting bid and delivery teams. You provide engineering oversight from design through handover and drive value-driven solutions. You’ll shape engineering capability, uphold company standards and culture, and engage with stakeholders to deliver major civil projects. This is a hands-on leadership role with a focus on technical assurance, innovation, and cross-team collaboration. You will be a key link between project delivery and client engagements, contributing to transformation and growth in a complex environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering function across nominated projects and sectors, supporting bid and delivery teams.
• Provide technical assurance across design, construction and handover while managing engineering risk.
• Drive innovation and value-driven engineering solutions through design, methods, and technology.
• Provide technical leadership on bids, tenders and client engagements.
• Develop engineering teams and promote the company standards, values and culture.
• Deputise for the Project Manager when required

Key requirements

• Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with a relevant professional body (ICE or IStructE)
• Substantial design and construction experience on major civil engineering projects
• Strong leadership experience managing engineering teams and design managers
• Proven ability to provide technical assurance and risk management on complex projects
• In-depth understanding of Principal Designer duties, including ERIC
• Ability to deputise for the Project Manager when required
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and leadership skills
• Experience on major heavy civils projects for National Grid, Hinkley Point C, Sellafield or similar (desirable)
