Overview

As Regional Director – Fire Engineering, you lead a UK-based fire engineering team within a multidisciplinary design consultancy. You drive delivery on large, complex projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, quality, and client satisfaction while growing the fire engineering practice. You collaborate with national leadership to align with strategic goals and develop staff through mentoring and professional development. You shape project strategy, client relationships, and business growth in support of AECOM’s mission to deliver a better world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead workload management, project delivery, and performance for the fire engineering team
  • Oversee delivery of large, complex projects meeting regulatory and client expectations
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and national leadership to ensure on-time, on-budget, high-quality outcomes
  • Lead performance reviews and set SMART goals; manage staff appraisals and professional development plans
  • Mentor staff toward chartership and expand expertise across sectors
  • Provide technical input to studies and designs across the portfolio
  • Lead client relationships and contribute to business development and new work opportunities
  • Ensure health & safety compliance and maintain strong client relationships
  • Support recruitment strategy and marketing for the fire team; contribute to the Fire Team Business Plan

Key requirements

  • Experience in UK fire engineering projects
  • Experience in large, multi-disciplinary environments
  • Knowledge of UK standards and guidance (ADB, BS 9991/9999/9992, HTM 05-02, BB100)
  • Proficiency with FDS, SFE, and evacuation modelling software
  • Membership in professional institutions (e.g., MIFireE) or NFPA certifications (CFPE)
  • Chartered Engineer status and MSc/PhD preferred
  • Security clearance preferred
  • International standards exposure (IBC, SFPE, NFPA) – advantageous
