Overview

In this role you will provide expert health and safety guidance to support the safe delivery of nuclear separation and decommissioning activities at Sellafield. You will operate in a highly regulated environment, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and nuclear regulatory requirements while promoting best practices. You will work with project teams to manage risk, run RAMS processes, and drive a positive safety culture. This is a key position within a major nuclear programme, focused on safety, risk management, and environmental compliance. You will engage with regulators and internal stakeholders to deliver measurable safety improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional health and safety advice to project teams involved in nuclear separation and decommissioning activities
  • Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation and nuclear regulatory requirements
  • Develop, review, and implement Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety tours to identify hazards and implement corrective actions
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to safety standards and permit-to-work systems
  • Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis, sharing lessons learned
  • Promote positive safety culture through engagement, coaching, and behavioural safety initiatives
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies including ONR as required
  • Maintain accurate H&S records, reports, and documentation
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance H&S performance across the project

Key requirements

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Proven experience as Health & Safety Advisor in a highly regulated industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practice
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to influence teams and promote a positive safety culture
  • Strong organisational and reporting skills
  • Desirable: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, IOSH membership, nuclear sector experience, security clearance or ability to obtain clearance
